“The Conference was jointly organized by the Ulsan Metropolitan City, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and UNIDO, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. It brought together around 400 participants, including high-level government officials, representatives of the private sector, industry associations, academia and civil society – to explore the interdependence between industry and cities in the context of resource efficiency, green technology and eco-innovation. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon opened the conference with a video message, remarking that “Cities are going to play a pivotal part in making [the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development] a reality”. The main topics discussed on the 4th Green Industry Conference were Green Industry, Circular economy and their role in the for sustainable inclusive development in green metropolitan areas.
Mr. S.Golovanov made presentation “UNIDO Pharos Suite — The Past and The Future: 20 years of collaboration in innovation enabling sustainable industrial development and digital transformation” at the GIC 2016 session “Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Cities”.
On the plenary sessions were also noted that:
- There are innovative management and technology approaches which can be applied in the green industry projects;
- Innovative business models can address some of the key challenges of rapid urbanization;
- Also was discussed a need for Green Industry Index. A system could help countries and industries to measure the progress towards green growth, with specific criteria. Thoug there are such challenges as difficulty to maintain a holistic approach; to keep specific country’s position; to find data.
