Workshop “Smart Cities in Practice” in Vienna

The second workshop and knowledge exchange event “Smart Cities in practice” for mid- and small- size urban communities took place in Vienna on 31.10.2017 and expanded the success of the first Vienna workshop “Implementing Smart Cities and Towns in Central Europe” in 2016 organized by ASIDEES.org.

The workshop focused on

  • Presentation and analysis of practical achievements of several European mid- and small-size city municipalities implementing Smart City concepts
  • Evaluation and discussion of the results of experimental project "Smart Urbana"  applied digital transformation platform Smart City Monitor in 5 European cities - Volvi (Greece), Nisporeni (Moldova), Faro (Portugal), Alba Iulia (Romania) and Calvia (Spain) in 2017  
  • Reviewing novel use cases for Smart City and digital economy applications developed in Vienna (Austria), Jelgava (Latvia), Gdynia (Poland), Kezmarok (Slovakia) and Olexandriya (Ukraine)    
  • Developments of international standardisation for Smart Cities and Communities and quality of local smart governance by ISO TC 268
  • Overview of the latest developments of Smart City Monitor and its services for mid- and small size cities 
  • Creating of effective working consortia for Smart City projects in 2018 for applying to financial instruments by Horizon 2020, Interreg and Structural funds.  

The event attracted strong interest by municipalities, industries and international organizations. Its results were positively evaluated by the participants who expressed interest in its continuation annually.
